The Impact of Macroeconomic and Industrial Policies on Turkish Car Industry

This paper will discuss how the Turkish automobile industry has been affected by macroeconomic policies for industrial performance and growth in different periods of its history. The sector is shown as a good example of how an initially protected home market can be transformed into a competitive and increasingly export-oriented industry through FDI inflows coupled with the availability of low cost highly qualified labor force. The firms’ approaches to product development, technology strategy, and organization of work, managerial techniques, profit strategies and invest¬ments are worth examining.
