Examining the Role of Community of Practice in the Electrification and Digitalization of the Chinese Automobile Industry

This paper investigates the crucial role that Communities of Practice (CoPs) play in driving intra and inter-organizational change during the electrification and digitalization era of the Chinese automobile industry. Specifically, we focus on the Telematics@China Community (TCC) from 2008 to 2019 and analyze more than 100 face-to-face conferences, symposiums, and events organized by TCC. Our study is based on the Socio-Economic Approach of Management (SEAM) theoretical framework developed by Henri Savall, in conjunction with CoPs. Our findings suggest that CoPs can facilitate the transfer of knowledge and drive organizational change, ultimately leading to improved performance for firms in the automotive electrification and digitalization sector.
