HRD practices by Japanese automobile makers in emerging countries: the case study of training programs in India and Mexico

This paper focuses on the assessment of the HRD strategies implemented by Japanese automobile manufacturers in India and Mexico by concentrating in the MNCs training and development (T&D) strategies in the context of their subsidiaries in host emerging countries. The main objectives of this research are: to assess the T&D programs, to understand the host / home country effects, to understand the role of the host country labor market, and to investigate a relation between the T&D programs and organizational performance. This paper is based on data from interviews with MNCs headquarters officials and expatriates. As well, secondary data has been gathered to further confirm and enhance the results. The findings of this research will be presented in form of an exploratory single case study.
